September 2026 Employees of the Month
GGUSD’s Employee of the Month program is designed to recognize employees who: put others first; go above and beyond to make a difference in their role; carry out each day with a positive attitude and strong work ethic and demonstrate innovation, leadership, and passion for their job.
Anh Than
Our Certificated Employee of the Month is Rancho Alamitos High School teacher Anh Than. A homegrown GGUSD employee, Anh joined the district in 2009 and has taught Physics, AVID, Physical Science, Chemistry, and P.E. at Rancho.
Anh was nominated by a student who described him as an outstanding teacher. The student shared that he had been struggling in Physics, but Mr. Than’s support helped him understand the material “in a matter of seconds.”
Throughout the Rancho community, Anh is known not only for his exceptional instructional strategies, but also for genuinely caring about his students and generously giving his time to the school. He serves as Co-Athletic Director, is a longtime basketball coach and helped launch and lead Rancho’s girls’ flag football program. Anh’s dedication to his students and the entire Rancho community make him truly deserving of this recognition.
Amber Huffman
Our Classified Employee of the Month is Amber Huffman. Amber joined the district in 2013 as a substitute Student Supervision Assistant and became a permanent SSA at Excelsior Elementary School in 2015.
Amber was nominated for this recognition by several students, who described “Miss Amber” as an amazing person who is kind to students and families, spreads positive energy and makes everyone feel welcome. Students shared that she genuinely cares about them and is always there when they need help. One student recalled how Ms. Amber’s kindness “made her night” at the school’s Halloween event, while another shared that Amber showed concern when she was injured at recess and personally brought her to the nurse’s office.
In addition to her role as a Student Supervision Assistant, Amber serves as the school’s crossing guard. She is a valued member of the Excelsior team whose contagious positivity and calm, warm presence help students feel safe, supported and cared for each day.
