On Tuesday, December 17, Congressman Alan Lowenthal, who represents California’s 47th District, will meet with Pacifica High School seniors and student leaders to respond to letters he received from two civics classes.
For more than 10 years, civics teachers Leslie Ross and Drew De Voy have required their senior students to write letters to local members of congress as a way to encourage taking active role in the community.
On Tuesday, Congressman Lowenthal will speak to seniors during fourth period to personally address some of their questions. He will then join the social science teachers and a group of student leaders for lunch and more discussion.
The letter-writing project is part of Pacifica High School's Expected Schoolwide Learning Results – prepare for life by setting goals; honor self, others, community, and the world; and succeed through knowledge and action.
