A team of Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) freshman students from Pacifica High School took home first place in their division at a statewide competition where students program robots to solve a series of problems. After programming their robots to win ten separate challenges, the students won first place and best teamwork at the 7th Annual C-STEM Day and RoboPlay Competition at UC Davis on Saturday, May 20.
“GGUSD offers many exceptional courses in computer programming and STEM which equip students with skills that will be in high demand as they enter the work force,” said Teri Rocco, GGUSD Board of Education member. “Our students consistently demonstrate that GGUSD’s STEM program is one of the best in the state.”
The participating students from Pacifica had only been learning code for six weeks under the guidance of teachers Ms. Liogys and Ms. Nguyen. Pacifica also had two teams participating in division 2, placing 11th and 15th out of 31 teams. The competition featured more than 120 teams participating at UC Davis and University High School in Irvine.
