GGUSD Board of Education Holds Swearing-In Ceremony and Selects President and Vice President

At its December 18 meeting, the Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) Board of Education held a swearing-in ceremony for Bob Harden who was re-elected during the November 2018 election and Lan Nguyen who was appointed to the position due to running unopposed.  The oath of office was administered by California State Assemblyman Tyler Diep.   

The swearing-in ceremony was held during the Board of Education’s annual organizational meeting, which takes place each December to select the board’s president and vice president. The Board of Education voted to elect Lan Nguyen as president and Trustee Teri Rocco as vice president for 2019. 

Several local elected officials including Assemblyman Diep, Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do, Garden Grove Mayor Steve Jones, Westminster Mayor Tri Ta, and members of the Westminster School District Board of Education attended the meeting to voice support for Nguyen and Harden and highlight the Board of Education’s positive working relationship with area leaders.

“It is an honor to continue serving our community to ensure our students have the best education possible and are equipped for lifelong success,” said Nguyen.”

“I am grateful for the support from the community and am committed to continuing this board’s rich tradition of providing students with an exceptional educational experience at our award-winning schools,” said Harden.

The five Board of Education members are elected by trustee area by voters of the district to serve four-year terms. Current members include Teri Rocco serving Trustee Area 1 through November 2020, Lan Nguyen serving Trustee Area 2 through November 2022, Bob Harden serving Trustee Area 4 through November 2022, Walter Muneton serving Trustee Area 3 through November 2020, and Dina Nguyen serving Trustee Area 5 through November 2020.

Among its many duties, the Board adopts the annual budget and approves all expenditures, establishes district policy, authorizes employment of personnel, approves curriculum textbooks and courses of study, and makes decisions on all contracts.

Regular meetings of the Board of Education are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month in the boardroom of the district's Education Center, 10331 Stanford Avenue, beginning at 7 p.m. Special meetings may be called when necessary; the agenda, location and time will be announced in advance.
