GGUSD Board of Education Hosts Choose Wellness Event
- Friday, December 6, 2019
Garden Grove Unified School District’s Board of Education invites families, high school students and staff to attend its first Choose Wellness event on January 30 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Alamitos Intermediate School, 12381 Dale Street, Garden Grove. Hosted by Vice President Teri Rocco, the event will feature a Resource Fair from 5:00 to 5:40 p.m., brief remarks from Vice President Rocco, as well as two 40-minute workshops beginning at 6:00 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. covering a variety of topics relating to mental health and wellness.
“The Board of Education recognizes that our families are hungry for more information about supporting the mental health of their children,” said Board of Education Vice President Teri Rocco. “The Choose Wellness Event will be a one-stop shop with loads of resources to provide support for very specific issues that young people and families face in their personal lives.”
Attendees will choose two of the more than 20 parent and student-centered workshops led by experts from GGUSD partner organizations. Some of the workshops include Suicide Prevention by Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services, Knowing Your Mental Health Benefits and Rights by Community Health Initiative of Orange County, Mental Health 101 by Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), Bullying Prevention by Casa Youth Shelter, Healthy Family Relationships by Women’s Transitional Living Center, Stress Reduction for Parents by Illumination Institute, and more.
This event is part of GGUSD’s “Choose Wellness” campaign launched in September 2019 to increase awareness of mental health and wellness, and equip students, staff, and families with resources that address students’ motivation, socio-emotional well-being, and school climate and culture.
Please RSVP for the event at https://ggusd.us/rsvp/cwe. Childcare will be provided for children ages two to ten, and interpretation will be provided in Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, and Arabic.
