- Wednesday, March 3, 2021
Garden Grove Unified School District’s Board of Education invites families, intermediate and high school students and staff to attend its virtual Choose Wellness event on Monday, March 8, 2021 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. via ZOOM. The Board of Education will offer a special workshop featuring Dr. Clayton Chau, director of the Orange County Health Care Agency who will provide the latest updates on the county’s planning and response to the COVID-19 pandemic and recommendations for families on staying healthy.
“There has never been a more important time to highlight mental health and wellness resources,” said Board of Education Vice President Walter Muneton. “We recognize that a global pandemic and months of distance learning has taken a toll on families and we are excited to connect them with these important wellness tools.”
The event features a variety of workshops designed especially for parents and students led by experts from GGUSD partner organizations. Workshops to be offered include: Youth Suicide Prevention by Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services; Building Relationships for Resilience and Wellness by Orange County Department of Education; Anxiety, Depression, and the Impact of COVID-19 by Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC); Stress Reduction for Parents by Illumination Institute; Safe and Welcoming Schools by OC Human Relations; Be an Upstander: Challenging Biased Behavior by Anti-Defamation League; and more.
This event is part of GGUSD’s “Choose Wellness” campaign launched in September 2019 to increase awareness of mental health and wellness, and equip students, staff, and families with resources that address students’ motivation, socio-emotional well-being, and school climate and culture.
GGUSD families, staff or students are encouraged to RSVP for the event and sign-up for the workshops they plan to attend at https://bit.ly/ChooseWellness2021. After the registration is complete, attendees will receive their workshop Zoom links to attend. Interpretation will be provided in Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, and Arabic. Individuals who need interpretation should log-in at 5:00 p.m. for instructions using the interpretation feature in Zoom.
