GGUSD Lunar New Year Celebrations to Offer Exciting Cultural Experiences

Garden Grove Unified School District will celebrate the Lunar New Year with school-wide celebrations at many of our campuses in the coming weeks.

“GGUSD is proud of its diversity and the many ways in which we honor the cultures that make up our student population,” said Lan Nguyen, Board of Education vice president.  “Students, parents, and staff enjoy experiencing the traditions and festivities of other cultures.”

School events to celebrate the Lunar New Year include dragon dancers, student performances, fashion shows featuring traditional cultural wear, and much more.  GGUSD students represent a wide range of ethnicities and countries that celebrate the Lunar New Year, including Vietnam, Korea, China, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia, among many others. The district will participate in the 2018 Little Saigon Tet Parade on Saturday, February 17, with nearly 100 GGUSD high school students, Board of Education trustees, Superintendent Gabriela Mafi, Executive Director of K-12 Educational Services Lorena Sanchez, Public Information Officer Abby Milone, and members of the district’s Parent and Community Outreach team.

GGUSD’s diverse student population is 50 percent Latino and more than 30 percent Asian. The district has a long tradition of providing academic instruction and extra-curricular opportunities to honor and celebrate different cultures.
