GGUSD’s Class of 2021 Graduate Ready for College and Career Success

More than 3,300 high school seniors from Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) graduated from the district’s eight high schools during commencement ceremonies held June 8 and June 9. The Class of 2021 graduates with an impressive list of academic accolades and exciting plans for college, career, and lifelong success.

Students in the Class of 2021 finished high school with more than 11,150 Advanced Placement courses completed and 57% of GGUSD seniors completed one or more AP course, many with college credits already under their belts.

Among the Class of 2021, 926 students report that they have chosen to attend a UC or CSU school.  GGUSD students consistently beat the county and stage average on completion of rigorous a-g college entrance exams. 

“We are proud of the Class of 2021 who are leaving high school prepared to achieve success in their college and career goals,” said Board of Education President Lan Nguyen.  “These graduates will surely be our next generation of community leaders, educators, entrepreneurs, inventors, researchers, and scientists; we cannot wait to see what they will do next.”

During the commencement ceremonies, GGUSD students and families heard from valedictorians who reflected on their high school experience and looked ahead to exciting futures. Among the district’s eleven valedictorians, four will attend ivy league universities in the fall, including Los Amigos co-valedictorian Sebastian Lozano who will major in Mathematics at Harvard, Los Amigos co-valedictorian Kenny Dao who will major in Economics at Stanford University, Rancho Alamitos valedictorian Nina Nguyen who will major in Human Biology at Stanford and Santiago High School valedictorian William Hin who will major in Political Science at Yale University.

The Class of 2021 includes 20 National Merit Scholars and 1,312 seniors earned the Golden State Seal Merit Diploma demonstrating mastery in at least six subject areas. More than 600 graduates earned the state Seal of Biliteracy, demonstrating fluency in two or more languages, an important skill for high-paying careers in the global economy.

For the fourth year in a row, all seven comprehensive high schools were named to U.S. News and World Report’s elite rankings as America’s Best High Schools. 

GGUSD will celebrate the success of its Class of 2021 graduates with light pole banners featuring students’ college plans that will be hung this summer throughout the communities of Garden Grove, Fountain Valley, Santa Ana, and Westminster
