GGUSD Students Earn Free Thanksgiving Meals for Achieving Goals

Thirty Garden Grove Unified School District students from Clinton Elementary and Doig Intermediate schools received bags full of groceries for a free Thanksgiving meal as an incentive they earned for accomplishing their individual academic and personal goals. Students were excited to receive a Thanksgiving turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, and more.

The Thanksgiving incentive was offered by Orange County GRIP (gang reduction intervention program), a partnership of the  Orange County District Attorney’s Office, local law enforcement, and community partners working together to provide children with caring adult mentors who help them make positive choices and achieve academic success. 

Garden Grove Board of Education President Lan Nguyen, Superintendent Gabriela Mafi, Assistant Superintendent Sara Wescott, District Attorney Todd Spitzer, Garden Grove Police Chief Tom DaRe, representatives from Ralphs and Food 4 Less grocery stores, representatives from Saddleback Church, and many members of the law enforcement community attended to congratulate students on their success. 

“We are grateful for this partnership that shows students that law enforcement is here to help and support them,” said Lan Nguyen, Board of Education President. “We are proud of our students for working incredibly hard to earn this wonderful Thanksgiving meal for their families.”
